Risk assessment is one of the key tasks involved in the CE marking process. As machinery and plant become increasingly complex and regulatory requirements grow, so too does the need for transparent and efficient processes.
Safexpert 10 supports users with a fundamentally enhanced risk assessment function. The focus is on an optimised risk assessment structure, the reuse of tried-and-tested solutions, and new functions for updating and maintaining existing projects.
Greater clarity and fewer duplicate entries
The most significant new feature in Safexpert 10 is the new structure of the risk assessment. The central element is the hazardous situations. These are clearly grouped and presented according to hazard zones. A key enhancement is that multiple hazards and multiple life phases can be assigned to a single hazardous situation. This allows related issues to be managed and documented together.

Utilising knowledge across projects
Proven solutions and experience represent a vital knowledge base in many organisations. With the optimised solution library, complete hazardous situations – comprising hazard descriptions and measures – can be saved as templates and reused across projects.
In addition, the solution library supports the management of successor versions and alternatives. Users are automatically notified when more up-to-date templates are available or when alternative solutions are on offer. A clear comparison function makes it easier to evaluate different version statuses and variants.
Keep projects and measures up to date with less effort
The new Machinery Regulation illustrates just how time-consuming it already is – and will become in future – to adapt risk assessments to changed requirements and standards, which are being gradually revised or republished in the wake of the new Machinery Regulation.
Safexpert users on the ‘Safexpert Pro’ package or higher benefit from an automated update check. Documents in use are monitored for changes, successor documents are displayed, and the implications for existing measures are presented transparently. With Safexpert 10, this check can, for the first time, be carried out centrally for an entire risk assessment. Successor documents can be checked and adopted in bulk, which makes it easier to keep documentation up to date, particularly for large-scale projects.
Safexpert also helps to ensure that content remains up to date when reusing tried-and-tested material. This applies both to templates from solution libraries and to measures copied from existing projects. This enables companies to reuse existing knowledge efficiently whilst ensuring that their solutions remain up to date.
Systematically implementing statutory requirements
Not all legal requirements arise directly from a single hazardous situation. Consequently, a further question arises as to which fundamental health and safety requirements of the Machinery Regulations apply to the machinery and how these are to be taken into account.
Safexpert supports this process with a structured requirements list. For each requirement, it is possible to specify whether it applies to the machinery. Decisions can be documented through comments. Furthermore, risk assessment measures can be directly linked to the relevant requirements, ensuring that their implementation is documented in a traceable manner.
This creates a verifiable link between the legal requirements and their implementation in the risk assessment. At the same time, the requirements list facilitates the systematic review of the requirements and provides transparent documentation for the technical files, thereby ensuring greater legal certainty and audit compliance.
A central overview of all SISTEMA calculations
For measures that depend on safety-related parts of a control system, the interface to the SISTEMA software has been expanded.
All SISTEMA calculations used in a project can be opened together in a central SISTEMA project. This means that all safety functions of a project are available centrally and can be managed together.
In addition, Safexpert displays a compact preview of the structure of a stored SISTEMA calculation. SISTEMA does not need to be open or installed on the relevant workstation for this.
If the required performance level or SIL is already known – for example, because it is specified in a C standard – the value can now be entered directly in Safexpert.
What does this mean in practice?
Safexpert 10 makes the creation and documentation of risk assessments significantly faster. Those involved can focus their technical expertise entirely on the core task and save valuable time through structured execution and documentation, as well as during long-term maintenance.
The risk assessment in Safexpert 10 is an end-to-end workflow that helps organisations keep their risk assessments efficient, traceable and permanently up to date. At the same time, the new structure creates greater transparency and helps to systematically manage both small and complex projects.
