On 21 November 2023, IBF organised a conference on the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 in Zurich in cooperation with Swissmem, the Swiss trade association for the mechanical, electrical and metal industries.

Distinguished experts in their respective fields provided the 150 participants with an overview of the changes to the Machinery Directive and the new requirements that will be introduced with the Machinery Regulation. In addition to the "classic" questions on new and amended requirements in the area of machine and system design, the individual speakers also addressed the opportunities and limitations of the future digital operating instructions, which represent a fundamental change in technical documentation.

In addition, topics that specifically affect manufacturers in the EU and Switzerland were considered. The main focus here was the question of what it will mean for manufacturers in the EU and Switzerland in the future if there is no bilateral agreement regarding the Machinery Regulation.

Other topics included the new requirements for control systems, electrical equipment and cyber security. The latter is a major topic of the new legislation, especially with the passage "protection against corruption". SUVA (Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund) also provided an insight into the perspective of market supervisory authorities.

IBF and Swissmem would like to take this opportunity to thank all participants, listeners, speakers and employees for a successful conference day in Zurich.
